Elderly Dogs and Boarding

Dogs for Adoption - Fort Worth

As you probably know, elderly dogs are fragile and many times frail. Boarding them can be stressful and stress can cause havoc in animals including humans. You might think your pup is totally healthy but unless you have had complete blood workup done, teeth cleaned regularly, heartworm prevention kept up to date, and any x-rays for any lumps, bumps or tumors, you really do not know if you have a healthy dog.

If you bring that dog into boarding, anything lurking inside of the pups, such as a disease process, can and most likely will reveal itself during boarding.

It’s similar to bringing an elderly, frail parent or grandparent to family gatherings and/or get them outside of their daily routine, it can cause confusion and havoc for the elderly.

We will board elderly dogs, sometimes, especially if they have been a regular customer for a long time and we know the pup well but we will require that they have had a complete blood workup and healthy.

If you can find a family member to come and babysit your beloved elderly pup, is probably better than boarding. Anytime you can keep the elderly pup on their normal daily routine, and known surroundings, the better.
