It was said in a seminar that the medical condition most often seen from boarding dogs was dehydration. That idea stuck with me and I have remained a stickler for making sure every single dog at Riverside is clean water from the moment they arrive. It is a written Standard Operating Procedure here and if not followed the team member’s pay will be reduced for that shift. When setting up a room, if one forgets water, their pay is reduced to minimum wage for that shift.
Dogs can go longer without food than they can water.
When dogs are ill, it’s vitally important that they stay hydrated. If they are taking oral medication and are dehydrated, the meds do not get circulated through their system and are not effective.
If ill, consider feeding your pup canned food mixed with lots of water.
